Do you bake, sew, knit, paint, take photographs, make cards, do cross stitch, have children or grandchildren that make Lego or enjoy colouring?
Maybe you aren’t creative but enjoy spending time enjoying light refreshments looking at beautiful flowers, being amazed by huge and weird looking vegetables and looking at just how creative some people are and wishing you could do that!
If you answered yes to any of these questions then why not enter or visit Maltby Town Council’s Horticultural Show (incorporating Grow, Make and Bake) on Saturday 19th August at the Edward Dunn Memorial Hall, Maltby. Whether you’re an amateur or someone with experience there are classes for you to enter.
This year’s show has over 100 classes ranging from Vegetables, Flowers, Fruit, Domestic and Children’s Section, as well as a section purely for RHS standard exhibits. There is also a scarecrow and vegetable monster competition for children to be done on the day (material supplied on the day by Maltby Town Council – free of charge). It’s amazing how creative children can be!
Here’s the more serious information!
Exhibits may be staged on Friday evening, August 18th, between 6-8pm and/or Saturday August 19th between 8.00am-10.45am. All exhibits must have been produced by the exhibitor. Craft items must not have been previously been shown at a Maltby Town Council Horticultural Show. All exhibitors must leave the Hall by 11.00am prior to judging.
Maltby Town Council will provide plates and vases for exhibits if required. Exhibitors may also use their own if they so wish.
All judging will take place under the criteria laid down by Maltby Town Council except for the class to be judged under RHS rules.
The cost of entering is only 30p per item and it’s free for children aged 16 and under for the Children’s section only.
Opening hours of the Show are 2.00pm-4.30pm with presentation of awards for all shows at 4.15pm. All trophies will be presented and displayed in the Edward Dunn Memorial Hall. Trophy winners will receive a salver to keep. Prize cards and rosettes/pennants are awarded to winners as a permanent souvenir. We also have the Earl of Scarbrough’s Challenge Spade that is awarded for the Best Overall Exhibit in Show.
There is also money to be won in the adult only sections. 1st £3.00, 2nd £2.00 and 3rd £1.00. Winning prize money can be collected from 5.00pm on the day of the show.
In the children’s section rosettes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd and all children’s entries will receive a certificate.
On a lighter note…….
We have an exciting end of day auction, which takes place after the award presentation for those exhibitors who are happy to have their exhibits auctioned to raise money for the Town Council’s Charity of the Year – It’s completely voluntary and really good fun. Whether you’re having goods auctioned or you are taking part in the bidding! It’s more competitive than you might think!
Last year’s show was a great success; please join us to make this year’s show even better!
Everyone is welcome, young and old, wherever you live, either as an exhibitor or a visitor. So please put the date in your diary and come along and join us for what will be a memorable day, you’ll be sure of a very warm welcome.
Finally, we’re running a Garden & Allotment Competition – these are open to Maltby residents only. The Garden Competition will be judged during week commencing Monday 3rd July and the Allotment Competition is being judged during the week commencing 10th July.
